...and every man walked to his house,

וְיֵשׁוּעַ הָלַךְ אֶל־הַר הַזֵּיתִים׃

8:1

and Jesus walked to the Mount of the Olives.

וַיְהִי בַבֹּקֶר וַיָּבֹא עוֹד אֶל־הַמִּקְדָּשׁ

vauy'Hee vauBohqehr vauyauVoh ohd ehl-haumeeq'Daush

And it came to pass the next morning
he came once again to the temple,

וְכָל־הָעָם בָּאוּ אֵלָיו וַיֵּשֶׁב וַיְלַמְּדֵם׃

v'khohl-hau'Aum Bau'oo aeLauv vauyaeShehv vauy'maulDaem:

and all the people came to him and he sat and taught them.

וַיָּבִיאוּ הַסּוֹפְרִים וְהַפְּרוּשִׁים לְפָנָיו

vauyauVeeyoo hausohf'Reem v'haup'rooSheem l'fauNauv

And the scribes and Pharisees brought to him

אִשָּׁה אֲשֶׁר נִתְפְּשָׂה וְהִיא נֹאָפֶת

eeShah auShehr neet'p'Sah (bees'tohTah / v'Hee noh'Aufeht)

a woman that was taken and she was an adulteress.

וַיַּעֲמִידוּהָ בַּתָּוֶךְ׃

vauyau'aumeeDoohau bauTauvekh:

and they stood her in the midst,

וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו רַבִּי הָאִשָּׁה הַזֹּאת

and they said to him "Rabbi! This very woman

נִתְפְּשָׂה עַל מַעֲשֵׂה נִאוּפָהּ׃

neet'p'Sah (q'shehneet'maet b'neeooFehhau / aul mau'auSay nee'ooFah):

was caught in the act of adultery.

וּמשֶׁה צִוָּנוּ בַתּוֹרָה לִסְקֹל

and Moses commanded us in the Torah to stone

נָשִׁים כָּאֵלֶּה וְאַתָּה מַה־תֹּאמַר׃

nauSheem qauAeleh v'auTah mah-tohM(ae/ah)r:

women such as these: And you, what do you say?"

וְהֵם לְנַסּוֹת אֹתוֹ דִּבְּרוּ־זֹאת לִמְצֹא

(v'Aukh / v'Haem) l'nauSoht ohToh deebRoo-zoht leem'Tzoh

and they tested him, to bring upon him

עָלָיו שִׂטְנָה וַיִִּתְכּוֹפֵף יֵשׁוּעַ לְמַטָּה

auLauv seetNah (vauyeeQauf / vauyeet'qohFaef) YaeShooau l'mautah

an accusation.   And Jesus bent down low,

וַיְתָו בְּאֶצְבָּעוֹ עַל־הַקַּרְקָע׃

vauy'Tauv b'ehtz'bauOh aul-hauqaur'Qau:

and he wrote with his finger on the ground.

וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר הוֹסִיפוּ לִשְׁאֹל אֹתוֹ

vauy'Hee qau'auShehr hohSeefoo leesh'Ohl ohToh

and when they persisted in questioning him,

וַיִּשָּׂא אֶת־עֵינָיו וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם

vauyeeSau eht-aeNauv vauYohmehr aulayHehm

he lifted his eyes and he said to them,

מִי בָכֶם חַף מִפֶּשַׁע
הוּא יַדֶּה־בָּהּ אֶבֶן בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה׃

"mee vauKhem (zaukh b'lee-Fehshau / khauf meePehshah)
hoo (reeshohNah yauDeh-bau Auvehn / yauDeh-bau Ehvehn baureeshohNah):"

"Who among you is pure from sin
may be first to strike with the stone."

וַיִּתְכּוֹפֵף שֵׁנִית לְמָטָּה

8:8

(vauyeeQauf / vauyeet'qohFaef) shaeNeet l'Mautah

and he bent himself down once again,

וַיְתָו עַל־הַקַּרְקַע׃

vauy'Tauv aul-hauqaur'Qaur:

and he wrote upon the ground.

הֵם שָׁמְעוּ וְלִבָּם נֹקְפָם

8:9

(vauy'Hee kh'shaum'Aum vauYaukh leeBaum ohTaum / ? haem shaum'Oo v'leeBaum nohq'Faum)

they listened and their hearts were striken

וַיֵּצְאוּ אֶחָד אֶחָד הָחֵל מִן־הַזְּקֵנִים

vauyaetz'Oo ehKhad ehKhad (hauKhootzah / NIL) hauKhael meen-hauz'qaeNeem

and they went out one by one starting from the elders

וְעַד הָאַחֲרוֹנִים וַיִּוָּתֵר יֵשׁוּעַ לְבַדּוֹ

v'aud hauaukhaurohNeem vauyeevauTaer YaeShooau l'vauDoh

right to the last. and Jesus was left alone,

וְהַאִשָּׁה עֹמֶדֶת בַּתָּוֶךְ׃

v'haueeShah (neeTzehveht / ohMehdeht) bauTauvehkh:

and the woman was left standing in the midst.

וַיִּשָּׂא יֵשׁוּעַ אֶת־עֵינָיו וַיַּרְא כִּי־אֵין

8:10

8:10

vauyeeSau YaeShooau eht-ayNauv vauYaur' qee-aeyn

And Jesus lifted his eyes and saw there no

אִישׁ בִּלְתִּי הָאִשָּׁה לְבַדָּהּ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֶיהָ

eesh beel'Tee hauEeshah l'vauDah vauYohmehr aeLehhau

man; the woman was by herself. And he said to her,

אִשָּׁה אֵיפֹה שׂטְנַיִךְ הֲהִרְשִׁיעָךְ אִישׁ׃

"eeShah aeFoh soht'Nahyeekh (hauKhee heerSheeyaukh / hauheer'Sheeaukh) eesh?"

"Woman, where are your accusers? Doesn't anyone condemn you?"

וַתֹּאמֶר לֹא אֶחָד אֲדֹנִי

8:11

8:11

vauTohmehr loh (NIL / ehKhaud) audohNee

And she said "no one, my lord."

וַיֹּאמֶר לָכֵן גַּם־אֲנִי לֹא אַרְשִׁיעֵךְ

vauYohmehr lauKhaen gaum-auNee loh aur'sheeAekh

And he said,
"Then neither will I condemn you.

לְכִי לְדַרְכֵּךְ וְאַל תֶּחֶטְאִי עוֹד׃

l'khee l'daurQaekh v'aul-tehkhehT'ee ohd:"

Go your way and sin no more."
